Munich S-Bahn trains to carry 166 stretched displays each

The 90 new trains on the S-Bahn network, which will be introduced from late 2028, will feature almost 15,000 screens offering passenger information and opportunities for DooH advertising.

New trains on Munich’s S-Bahn rail network will each feature 166 stretched displays from late 2028, according to a report by German digital signage consultancy Invidis.

The 90 trains, which will cost more than €2bn euros, will be equipped with a range of internal and external displays that will offer passenger information in real time. As well as updates on the next station and any disruptions, they will offer space for passenger TV.

Each train will be equipped with 104 internal displays above the doors, on the ceilings, in the carriage transition areas and four large video walls on the rear walls of the drivers’ cabs.

Sixty-two exterior displays above the train doors will provide information about the line, destination and intermediate stops, as well as about capacity utilisation, the position of on-platform exits and elevators, and locked doors.

Coloured LED strips on the side of the carriages will show passengers on which line a train is travelling.
