PPDS has teamed up with integrator TechArts to deliver the largest Philips direct-view LED videowall installation in North America – at a church in California.

As part of a campus-wide upgrade investment programme, the Desert Reign Church decided to replace its ageing stage set-up in order to transformation the experience for its congregation, both in church and streaming at home.

PPDS and TechArts opted for a Philips 9000 dvLED wall measuring 9.5m by 3.5m, with a 1.9mm pixel pitch. Installed in less than a week, the Philips L-Line 9000 Series was chosen for its ability to deliver an optimum viewing experience to all areas of the auditorium.

The dvLED wall offers the church a range of sustainability benefits, including a 20% reduction in energy consumption compared with similar displays. Active Health Monitoring means future maintenance and parts replacement can be predicted in advance, with precise pinpointing of a problem in real time. Troubleshooting and all content can be managed and controlled remotely.

The Philips 9000’s fire-retardant design would slow the spread of flames in the event of a fire, while its IP30 rated conformal coating makes it dust, dirt, fungus and moisture resistant. It is also certified against ingress, reducing the risk of a short circuit from dust or corrosion.

Daniel Dutch, the church’s lead pastor, says: “People are amazed when they walk in. We did a lot of research and explored many LED walls and contractors. We found PPDS to be head and shoulders above the rest.”

TechArts chief executive Chuck Mitchell says: “This was a unique LED project that was born out of a desire for the church to go to the next level for experience. We put together a great demonstration, coordinating with PPDS, and when they saw the incredible high-resolution quality from Philips, they were in no doubt this was the right solution for their needs.”

Mitchell Rosenberg, director of dvLED and videowall NA at PPDS, says: “The wall is our largest dvLED installation to date and our first large-scale demonstration of how we can support markets, such as places of worship, in creating a more engaging, inspiring and immersive experience.”
