MAGIC AI, the UK’s first AI personal trainer, has secured a £2m investment to fuel its expansion plans.

The investment has been led by London-based Fasanara Capital and supported by SFC Capital and several angel investors, including Sir Richard Branson and Signal AI co-founder Miguel Martinez.

MAGIC employs ‘holographic’ technology to offer users an immersive fitness experience. Sports stars such as ex England cricketer Sir Alastair Cook and Team GB Olympic sprinter Asha Philip appear as a hologram inside MAGIC’s AI wall mirror to offer what feels like a one-to-one training session in strength, dance, boxing, yoga and sports techniques.

The technology works in a similar way to other ‘magic mirrors’. Placing the screen behind a one-way mirror means that the reflection can be overlaid with videos of the trainers.

It is supplemented by MAGIC’S ReflectAI, which uses an embedded camera to track a user’s movements. This enables the trainer to offer instant feedback on a user’s posture and form. The technology also allows the trainer to react to movements – from counting a user’s reps in real time to pausing when the user does – creating a fully personalised workout.

Fasanara Capital chief executive Francisco Filia told Tech Funding News: “As AI continues to transform the way we live and work, MAGIC and its ReflectAI technology is at the forefront of this exciting trend, as consumers demand more personalised health and wellness experiences.”
