Brompton powers Korea’s largest public sector VP studio

The largest virtual production (VP) studio operated by a government organisation has opened in South Korea.

The Gwangju Content Cube VX Studio covers 1,466sq metres and features a 30m by 6m LED wall comprising INFiLED DB2.6 S8C LED panels.

INFiLED DF3.9mk-C8 LED panels have been deployed to create a 15m by 10m floor, while the 50sq metre ceiling is constructed from INFiLED AR3.91 S8C panels.

The LED set-up is powered by 27 Brompton Technology 4K Tessera SX40 LED processors and 106 Tessera XD 10G data distribution units. These work together to provide a single-box solution for data distribution, offering full data cable redundancy.

The facility also features a Sony AV system and a disguise vx4 media server and rxII render system. The camera-tracking system is provided by STYPE.

The Gwangju Content Cube VX Studio is a collaboration between technology company RealProtec, digital-services specialist CJ OliveNetworks and Jinwoo M&C.

RealProtec’s chief opeartions officer, Sungbaek Choi, said: “The SX40 processor’s real-time control response speed, coupled with the Tessera software features, enable us to handle even the most complex shooting environments.” He adds that the LED display and control system are operating at ultra-low latency, with 12-bit input and a 120Hz camera frame rate.

Elijah Ebo, director of APAC operations at Brompton Technology, said: “The VX Studio project is a remarkable initiative that pioneers the country’s first-ever hybrid realistic photography facility capable of operating LED wall-based in-camera VFX and XR stages simultaneously. It supports the stability expected from the immersive content industry, not just in South Korea, but on an international scale.”

The Gwangju Content Cube was created as a multi-faceted space equipped with a content production infrastructure for movies, games and animations, alongside immersive content experience facilities such as VR, AR and mixed reality.
