Meta Quest game Asgard’s Wrath 2 has been launched with a scene-stealing hologram outside a games awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
The illusion, which showed gods and monsters in action in the night sky, appears to use large-scale projection on to hologram gauze suspended from cranes in a car park.
The hologram, seen outside the Peacock Theatre where the Games Awards are held, was the work of ad agency BBDO New York. The agency collaborated with London-based hologram production company Kaleida, VFX company Method Studios, and Meta on the Asgard’s Wrath 2 project.
Writing on LinkedIn, BBDO New York creative director Joe Fox, said: “Our latest work for the Asgard’s Wrath 2 launch had every comments section wondering how we did it!… We brought chaos to the LA skies by gatecrashing the Game Awards. The games industry’s most influential figures (and thousands of bewildered locals) saw Loki and other beasts of Asgard’s Wrath burst into our world, ready to cause chaos and destruction.”
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is an immersive, visceral, VR action role-playing game in which users become a Cosmic Guardian. They are then charged with saving the world from the evil chaos of the trickster god Loki. Players can explore massive realms, dominate in brutal physical combat, and forge their fate, as they battle gods and monsters in epic-scale VR. The game is intended for mature audiences and comes free with a Meta Quest 3 headset for a limited time.
The Games Awards is an annual event, held since 2014, that brings together games developers, players and notable names from popular culture to celebrate and advance gaming.
