PPDS has provided Philips digital signage displays and the Wave Controller cloud platform for 40 of Finnish eye-care specialist Silmäasema’s high-street stores.

Silmäasema tasked AV integration specialist FirstView Digital Signage and PPDS with reinventing the way in which it communicated with customers, while delivering more-sustainable and cost-efficient business practices.

Philips D-Line Android SoC displays were installed in all point-of-sale environments in each store, replacing the existing paper-based communication materials and introducing new branding and marketing possibilities.

Away from the shop floor, a range of 10” Philips T-Line Multi-Touch Smart Displays were placed outside Silmäasema’s consultation rooms. The displays also capture footfall analytics, providing each store with insights into how the rooms are being used.

The Wave Controller allows staff manage content and control all displays  remotely. All firmware updates and new functionalities, including security, can be actioned on a per-store or collective basis.

FirstView’s in-house content management software has been installed directly on to each Philips display alongside Wave, with no external media players required.

Silmäasema can tailor each display to automatically power down at specific times of the day, as well as being able to reduce or increase screen brightness.

In addition to replacing paper with digital signage, Wave Controller offers a range of sustainability benefits, including energy reduction, extending the lifetime of the displays and less travel for support and maintenance.

Silmäasema plans to roll out the Philips displays and Wave Controller across more of its stores.

Anne Rantanen, Silmäasema’s marketing director, says: “With FirstView innovating our in-store digital signage with Philips professional displays, we can concentrate on our core business – giving the optimal eye-care experience to customers.

“Signage is visible and up to date without issues, and staff are not distracted searching for remote controls and having to intervene on technical issues.”
